10 powerful celebrity quotes on Black Lives Matter to live by

The Black Lives Matter global movement was founded in 2013 following the death of an African-American teenager Trayvon Martin and has been steadily gaining momentum for years. But last year’s events following the unthinkable actions of police that led to the death of George Floyd, have sparked a boom in the movement.

Citizens around the world have spoken out against racism pledging to help unpick the systems that perpetuate inequality. People from all race, country and religion have united, participating in protests and rallies, donating to relevant causes and educating themselves (and others) on racial inequality with a vision of ending white supremacy, establishing a world of freedom and equality for black people.

Many celebrities also joined the movement, educating and inspiring their followers. And here’s a collection of ten powerful celebrity quotes on why Black Lives Matter and racial injustice needs to stop!

1. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift took to Twitter last May to openly criticise Donald Trump after his controversial tweets on the protests led to widespread criticism (It happened before the ex-president’s account was suspended).

“After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’???”

2. Stefflon Don

British Rapper Stefflan Don shared this beautiful message through an Instagram post.

“‘In the end, we will not remember the enemies words, but the silence of our friends/peers’. Unarmed, cuffed and not dangerous. The only crime he committed was being Black and beautiful. Do not stand by and allow these devils to take another life! If I witnessed something as vile as this I would never stand there and talk. I am not scared and I do not live in fear so don’t you either.”

3. Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra took to Instagram to share a picture of George Floyd’s heartbreaking last words “Please, I can’t breathe” with an equally emotional caption that read -

“There is so much work to be done and it needs to starts at an individual level on a global scale. We all have a responsibility to educate ourselves and end this hate. End this race was here in the US, and around the world. Wherever you live, whatever your circumstances, NO ONE deserves to die, especially at the hands of another because of their skin colour. George, I am praying for your family. ❤️”

4. Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande shared her message through Twitter along with some photos of peaceful protests.

5. Jamie Foxx

Star Wars actor John Boyega shared a picture of John Boyega with a powerful message for racists.

7. Niall Horan

Niall Horan took to Twitter to show his support.

“Racism has been rampant for hundreds of years, it’s just that in this century people have camera phones to video it. It’s absolutely disgusting that you get mistreated because of the colour of your skin. You would think that those that are there to protect us, would protect.”

8. Anne-Marie

Anne-Marie who has been a public supporter of this movement from the beginning took her stand on fighting racism till the end.

9. Harry Styles

Harry Styles shared a powerful message on Instagram encouraging his followers to donate and stand for the cause.

“I do things every day without fear, because I am privileged, and I am privileged every day because I am white. Being not racist is not enough, we must be anti-racist. Social change is enacted when a society mobilizes. I stand in solidarity with all of those protesting. I’m donating to help post bail for arrested organizers. Look inwards, educate yourself and others. LISTEN, READ, SHARE, DONATE and VOTE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. BLACK LIVES MATTER.”

10. Rihanna

Rihanna shared a long and emotional message through Instagram asking justice for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

“For the last few days, the magnitude of the devastation, anger, sadness I’ve felt has been overwhelming to say the least! Watching my people get murdered and lynched day after day pushed me to a heavy place in my heart! To the point of staying away from socials, just to avoid hearing the blood curdling agony in George Floyd’s voice again, begging over and over for his life!!! The look of enticement, the pure joy and climax on the face of this bigot, murderer, thug, pig, bum, Derek Chauvin, haunts me!! I can’t shake this! I can’t get over an ambulance pulling up to an arrest, a paramedic checking a pulse without removing the very thing that’s hindering it! Is this that fucking normal??? If intentional MURDER is the fit consequence for “drugs” or “resisting arrest”….then what’s the fit consequence for MURDER???!”
